Self-Guided European Bicycle Touring Made Easy and Affordable Cycle Touring Book "Cycling Along Europe's Rivers" is a "How To" book on taking self-guided bike trips to Europe that are affordable and easy to organize -- based on my 25 years of annual cycle trips to Europe -- with the last six years including my son, starting when he was 8 years old.   And although there isn’t a SAG wagon, you aren’t on a completely unsupported tour: Europe has a well-developed rail network, lots of campgrounds and bike shops, accurate maps, and delicious food in every town. And it is an excellent place to start touring on your own. My best advice is to use routes in the guides when there is a close match to where you want to go, and create your own route at other times. I feel the best book for European touring in general is Europe by Bike: 18 Tours Geared for Discovery, by Karen and Terry Whitehill, published by the Mountaineers. The idea of the book is a good one: if you want step by step directions for an easy bike trip without hills or difficulty in route finding, cycle along river bike routes.
